Legislation changes to reduce pollution: The China model.
Wednesday, May 10th, 2017 | Coatings and Construction

In an effort to reduce pollution, within a 2 year period, China moved from solvent borne technology to waterbase epoxy coating.

These metal containers are typically made of a layer of three (3) coats – primer, mid-coat and top coat. Historically, solvent borne epoxy coating and sometimes the mid-coat was made of epoxy. The top layer was usually an alkyd type.

Now, with newer development in waterbase epoxy, they formulated a stable rich zinc primer and have most of the mid-coat base on waterborne epoxy. They are getting similar or event better corrosion resistance than solvent borne technology.

China made a fast transition and now it is consuming large amount of waterbase epoxy / curing agent. Hexion, our supplier and global leader in specialty chemicals, is moving large volume to this country.
